Surgistar, a recently acquired division of MST, has been developing and manufacturing medical devices for the ophthalmology market for over twenty years. Our products are manufactured using the highest levels of care and precision at our manufacturing facility in Vista, CA.
Job Summary
The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing all accounting and finance activities for Surgistar, a division of MicroSurgical Technology (MST). Surgistar develops, manufactures and markets medical devices for the ophthalmology market. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, timely month‑end closes, and alignment with corporate accounting policies and group reporting requirements. The position acts as the primary accounting leader for the division, partnering with operations and corporate finance to support operational decision‑making, scalable growth, and implementation of new systems and processes as necessary. This position is on-site in Vista, CA.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Close
- Own and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness
- Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and flux analyses
- Drive balance sheet integrity and ensure compliance with US GAAP / IFRS and company accounting policies
- Prepare and review divisional financial statements and reporting packages for corporate consolidation
- Prepare forecasts and annual budget
Operational & Cost Accounting Oversight
- Own end-to-end full absorption cost accounting function, including inventory valuation, standard costing, and variance analysis (price, usage, labor, overhead)
- Lead inventory and COGS reconciliation processes, including investigation and resolution of discrepancies between operational data, ERP outputs, and financial records
- Partner with operations on inventory controls, physical and cycle counts, and manufacturing/external cost drivers
- Develop and implement WIP tracking methodologies and policies to support accurate production accounting
- Evaluate and implement Bill of Materials (BOM), routing, and cost driver integrity within ERP system
Controls, Compliance & Audit
- Ensure proper accounting for revenue recognition, accruals, capitalization, leases, and intercompany transactions. Establish and maintain effective internal controls in alignment with corporate governance standards.
- Support external and internal audits for divisional entities, including preparation of audit schedules and responses
- Ensure compliance with respective tax and other regulatory reporting
- Design and implement inventory and manufacturing-related internal controls including cycle counts, standard cost governance, and variance thresholds
Business Partnership
- Act as the primary financial liaison to Division General Manager ensuring clear communication between finance and operations
- Serve as finance business partner to divisional leadership, providing insight into financial performance and risks
- Support integration activities into MST and Halma, including ERP system transition and policy alignment and adoption
Systems & Process Improvement
- Ensure accurate accounting setup and reporting within ERP and consolidation systems (e.g., Tagetik or equivalent)
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, control, and scalability
- Support transitions from outsourced accounting to in‑house processes where applicable
People & Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop accounting associate
- Coordinate effectively with corporate accounting, tax, and shared services teams
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- 6–10+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial close, and balance sheet management
- Deep cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment including inventory, standard costing, and variance analysis
- Experience working with ERP systems and financial reporting tools
- Experience and daily usage of Siteline / Infor ERP
- Proven ability to partner cross‑functionally with operations and corporate teams
- Experience supporting or leading ERP implementations
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA, CMA, or equivalent professional certification
- Experience in manufacturing, medical devices, or operationally complex environments
- Prior experience supporting acquisitions, integrations, or carve‑outs
- Exposure to group reporting and consolidation processes
- Experience with BOMs, routings, and manufacturing data structures within ERP systems

Compensation (California Pay Transparency):
The good‑faith annual base salary range for this position is $115,000 – $140,000 at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be determined based on job‑related factors permitted by law, such as relevant experience, education, knowledge, skills, abilities, and internal equity.
