Role Overview

Handles claims that involve the investigation of coverage, liability, damages and resolution of both non-litigated and litigated claim files for primary casualty and excess lines, with emphasis on Bodily Injury claims and Landlords & Tenant (OL&T) claims throughout the United States. There will be some handling of small contractor artisan claims as well as wrap and project specific policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively handle complex claims from the First Notice of Loss (FNOL) to resolution of the claim while working with and advising business partners
  • Analyze and draft coverage letters while properly communicating coverage positions to insureds, brokers and agents
  • Assimilate all transfer cases and have current diary on all files; ensure all files are worked and brought current; understand and apply best practices; maintain a 1 to1 open to close ratio while reducing average indemnity and additional living expense (ALE)
  • Conduct and proactively handle investigation of claims whenever possible
  • Direct and closely monitor outside vendors or experts when needed
  • Draft high-quality reports, set timely reserves, or report to leadership cases wherein the reserves need to be set over authority
  • Provide technical advice to claims leadership and underwriting
  • Mentor and educate less experienced adjusters
  • Travel to conferences, mediations, and trials as necessary
  • Become proficient on all systems

  • Comply with corporate policies and procedures; report control breakdowns; ensure safe operations
  • May lead projects or assist in personnel evaluation as needed

What You Bring

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, a related field, or equivalent education and/or experience
  • Doctor of Jurisprudence preferred

Licenses & Certifications:

  • State Adjusting Licenses as required
  • CPCU and/or AIC preferred

Experience:

  • 8 years of relevant and progressive experience handling Bodily Injury cases, primary and excess, throughout the United States
  • Experience in Artisan claims and OL&T claims, including New York Labor Law

Additional Qualifications:

  • Deep knowledge of Construction Bodily Injury Claims
  • Highly proficient in coverage with experience handling coverage litigation on behalf of a carrier
  • Strong understanding of Risk Transfer and Recovery
  • Proficient in Litigation Management, including legal budget creation and review
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional communication skills with ability to build internal and external relationships
  • Flexibility and willingness to learn
  • Advanced knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with emphasis on confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy
  • Knowledge of industry changes, legal updates, and technical developments
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word)

Travel (if required/needed)

  • Travel as needed for mediations, trials, and meetings

Pay Transparency
The pay range for this position is $104,600.00 - $143,900.00 which includes geographic adjustments, where applicable. The pay range is the range THMCC, in good faith, believes is the range of compensation for this role at the time of this posting.
