The Manager Payroll is responsible for implementing, maintaining, and reviewing the payroll process. This function includes sustaining all compliance pertaining to the transactions processed, including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, other deductions, and payments to ensure compensation is accurate and timely.

 

Essential Job Functions 

Department Leadership

  • Directs, manages, and oversees the day-to-day payroll operations for a multi-state organization
  • Manages, mentors, motivates, and develops Payroll Team Members; leads by example in actions and decisions with excellent soft skills
  • Plans strategically with strong organizational and time management skills
  • Understands the business acumen needed to develop excellent cross-departmental collaboration

 

Payroll Management Expectations

  • Maintains accurate payroll records for each payroll processed
  • Maintains team member confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping confidential information
  • Reconciles bi-weekly file feeds and funding as it pertains to 401k, HSA, and FSA files
  • Resolves issues and answers payroll-related questions for team members
  • Collaborates with HR & Accounting teams
  • Works with and coordinates auditor requests and other third-party vendors
  • Participates in payroll testing, training, and documentation
  • Advises organization of impending legislative changes and provides updates regularly
  • Performs processing when required
  • Interfaces with state level agencies regarding payroll matters

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Proven experience leading a team
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant payroll experience
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred, but not required
  • Ability to manage spreadsheets, reports, records, and forms with a keen eye for detail
  • Mathematical aptitude
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Experience working with file feeds and integrations
  • Outstanding communication skills (written and oral)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Thorough understanding of multi-state payroll laws to include CA, taxation, withholding orders, proper and improper deductions, and FLSA as it relates to timekeeping and payments
  • Strong knowledge of payroll software and systems
