The Human Resources Coordinator provides administrative and operational support to the Director of Human Resources and Human Resources Department, assisting with day-to-day HR activities throughout the employee lifecycle.
This position supports recruitment, onboarding, employee records, benefits, training, HR programs, and employee communications. The HR Coordinator serves as a helpful and professional resource to employees and supervisors, while referring complex or sensitive matters to the Director of Human Resources.
This is a non-supervisory, developmental position designed for an individual who is interested in building a career in Human Resources and gaining broad experience across the HR function.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
HR Operations & Employee Records- Provides day-to-day administrative support to the Human Resources Department and Director of Human Resources.
- Maintains accurate and confidential personnel records and HR documentation.
- Processes routine personnel actions, forms, correspondence, and employee changes.
- Responds to routine employee questions and directs more complex matters to the Director of Human Resources.
- Maintains HR calendars, files, tracking logs, and department records.
- Assists with HR projects and process improvements.
Recruitment & Onboarding- Assists with recruitment activities, including posting positions and maintaining applicant information in NeoGov.
- Coordinates interview scheduling, candidate communications, reference checks, background checks, and pre-employment requirements.
- Assists hiring managers with the recruitment process.
- Coordinates new employee onboarding and required employment documentation.
- Assists with new employee orientation and benefit enrollment.
- Supports employee separation and offboarding processes.
Benefits & HR Programs- Assists with day-to-day administration of employee benefit programs.
- Responds to routine benefit questions and refers complex questions to the Director of Human Resources or benefit provider.
- Assists with open enrollment, benefit communications, and employee education.
- Maintains benefit records and required documentation.
- Assists with employee training, wellness, engagement, recognition, and other HR programs.
HRIS & Reporting- Maintains accurate employee information in the City's HRIS and related systems.
- Enters and updates employee and applicant information.
- Assists with routine HR reports, audits, and data tracking.
- Supports NeoGov, onboarding, and other HR technology systems.
- Assists with maintaining records in accordance with City policies and applicable requirements.
HR Compliance & Support- Assists with routine HR compliance activities and documentation under the direction of the Director of Human Resources.
- Assists with employment verification, I-9 documentation, E-Verify, leave documentation, and workers' compensation administration.
- Supports the City's performance evaluation and required training processes.
- Escalates employee relations concerns, complaints, accommodations, investigations, and other sensitive matters to the Director of Human Resources.

Typical Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Associate degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field required; bachelor's degree preferred.
Experience:
2+ years of experience in human resources.
Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field.
- Experience with an HRIS or applicant tracking system.
- Experience with NeoGov or similar HR technology.
- Experience in a municipal or public-sector environment, preferred but not required.
- PHR, SHRM-CP, or other HR certification, preferred but not required.
- Demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in Human Resources.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is primarily performed in a professional office environment with regular interaction with employees, applicants, supervisors, vendors, and the public. The position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, communicate effectively, operate standard office equipment, and occasionally lift or move materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
Occasional attendance at meetings, training sessions, job fairs, employee events, or other City activities outside normal business hours may be required.
